Happy Rooster Landscaping Lawn Treatment Program

Step 1: Pre-Emergent (Early Spring)

When to Apply: Late winter to early spring (February – March) before soil temperatures reach 55°F.

Benefits:

  • Promotes a spring green-up and recovery from winter damage.

  • Prevents weeds like crabgrass and dandelions before they germinate.

  • Strengthens lawn roots for early-season growth.

  • Reduces the need for excessive weed control later in the year.

Aftercare:

  • Water lightly after application to help the product activate.

  • Avoid raking or aerating immediately after application to maintain effectiveness.

  • You generally need to wait 2-4 months after application before seeding.

  • Do not apply to newly seeded or sodded lawn.

Step 2: Weed & Feed (Mid to Late Spring)

When to Apply: April – May, when weeds are actively growing.

Benefits:

  • Eliminates broadleaf weeds like dandelions and clover.

  • Provides nutrients to promote healthy green growth.

  • Enhances lawn thickness and reduces weed competition.

Aftercare:

  • Avoid watering for 24 hours after application to allow the herbicide to be absorbed.

  • Mow 2–3 days before or after treatment for best results.

  • You generally need to wait 3-4 weeks after application before seeding.

  • Do not apply to newly seeded or sodded lawn until after 3 mowings.

Step 3: Fertilizer (Early Summer)

When to Apply: June – July, when lawns need extra nourishment to withstand heat stress.

Benefits:

  • Strengthens roots to endure summer drought and foot traffic.

  • Encourages deep green color and continued growth.

  • Replenishes nutrients depleted by spring growth and mowing.

Aftercare:

  • Water deeply after application to help nutrients penetrate the soil.

  • Mow regularly but avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass height.

Step 4: Weed & Feed (Early Fall)

When to Apply: September – October, when temperatures cool down and weeds attempt to establish.

Benefits:

  • Controls fall weeds before they take root.

  • Revitalizes lawn after summer stress.

  • Prepares grass for winter dormancy and encourages root strength.

Aftercare:

  • Water lightly within 24 hours of application.

  • Avoid heavy foot traffic to allow the treatment to take full effect.

Step 5: Fertilizer (Late Fall to Early Winter)

When to Apply: October – November, before the first hard frost.

Benefits:

  • Strengthens roots for winter survival.

  • Promotes early green-up in spring.

  • Helps store nutrients for a healthier lawn next year.

Aftercare:

  • Water lightly to help nutrients absorb.

  • Continue mowing until the lawn stops growing naturally.

  • You generally need to wait 3-4 weeks after application before seeding.

  • Do not apply to newly seeded or sodded lawn until after 3 mowings.
